National Essay Writing Competition

As a run up to the United Nations International Convention on Climate Change to be held in Copenhagen in December this year, the MoEF and WWF-India is going to organise Prithvi Ratna, a National Essay Writing Competition in order to generate awareness about climate change amongst the youth. The competition is for school and college students between the ages of 16 -21.

The Topic of the essay is -

You are India's future generation - How can you lead / influence the climate change challenge to ensure a sustainable future for the country and the planet?

Entries can be submitted both in Hindi and English.

The winner of the competition will get a chance to be a part of the United Nations convention on Climate Change in Copenhagen. 8 runners-up will win a three nights two days educational trip to Jim Corbett National Park.

Your essay should contain the following –

a. An introduction, which introduces the subject. The objective is to demonstrate that you understand the essay topic and have formed your views on it.
b. A body, which develops your topic using research and analysis. All factual information has to be duly credited to original author and any plagiarism would be a condition to reject the essay without providing any reasons of rejections.
c. A conclusion, which summarizes the research and analysis presented in the essay and sets forth your conclusions. Your aim is to convince the reader that your views are consistent & logical.

The essay should be handwritten, legible and neatly presented.

The competition is open ONLY to students holding a valid passport. Please attach a photocopy of the participant’s passport (first & last page) with the essay and send it by post / courier to your relevant regional office before 23rd October 2009.
